Beyond her work in science and deep tech, Dr. Narang is a dedicated endurance athlete — a competitive marathoner and high-altitude mountaineer.
The rigor that defines her research carries into the mountains: long training blocks, preparation, and a willingness to commit to objectives that take years to earn. Her home ranges are the Cascades and the Sierra, where she returns for alpine climbs and time on glaciated terrain. A sunrise summit of Mt. Rainier remains hard to beat.
In recent years, her climbing has taken her south. She has climbed extensively in South America, with multiple summits in Peru's Cordillera Blanca — one of the world's great tropical alpine ranges — along with classic high-altitude ascents in Ecuador and Argentina.
Alaska is next on the horizon: she has her sights set on the great peaks of the Alaska Range — climbing in the Ruth Gorge, and a summit of Mt. McKinley (Denali).
